Children who have been drinking fluoridated water from birth experience 50 percent to 65 percent fewer cavities than do those living in areas that haven't had fluoridated water. This tapers off through their teen years when they $till have 20 percent fewer cavities than do their peers drinking non-fluoridated water.?1 I Fluoride helps prevent decay simply by making the enamel covering teeth harder as the teeth are formed. Consequently the greatest positive effects of fluoridation are seen in children.

Such bones are abnormally weak, brittle and prone to fracture, and new data suggest links between fluoridated water supplies and fluoride supplements with increased levels of fractures.36 39 A National Academy of Science textbook reports three stages in the development of bone fluorosis: chemical fluorosis, bone mottling and abnormal bone.40 Cause and effect will be harder to establish with soy formula, soy milk and other foods high in fluoride, but people who consume such products regularly would be prudent to consider them when calculating probable exposure levels.

In other words, you may not live in an area that has fluoridated water for drinking purposes, but many of the fruits and vegetables you buy at the grocery store have been grown using fluoridated water. These fruits and vegetables absorb the fluoride from the water through their roots. The amount of toxic fluoride in fruits and vegetables may then be compounded by the fact that artificial fertilizers and pesticides used in agriculture often also contain sodium fluoride to keep the level of insect activity down.

When you cook your vegetables in fluoridated water, the water evaporates, and the concentration of the fluoride increases. Soon, a single day's food consumption will also mean an unacceptably high level of fluoride exposure. One of the greatest sources of food- and beverage-borne fluoride is tea. One study found concentrations of 50-125 ppm in fifteen varieties of tea, a dramatic rise in just the last two decades. A Polish study found levels up to 340 ppm in sixteen varieties of teas. Why tea? Because some plants tend to accumulate fluoride in greater concentrations than others.
For this reason, any fluoride-containing product in an aluminum container, including fluoridated toothpaste in aluminum tubes, aluminum cans, aluminum cookware, and aluminum-containing foods mixed with fluoridated water, can potentially form the harmful aluminum fluoride compound AIF3. Entry of aluminum into the brain past the blood-brain barrier often involves special carrier molecules or combinations thereof. For example, albumin can carry aluminum into the brain, especially when magnesium deficiency is present.
Trendley Dean, in which communities with naturally fluoridated water were compared to communities having low levels of fluoride in their water. Bauxite, Arkansas, was chosen as the study city, since it had a natural level of fluoride of 14 ppm. Researchers claimed that Bauxite had a dental caries (tooth decay) rate of 39 percent compared to unfluoridated communities of 65 percent. This sounds very impressive.
They are in fact frightened of fluoridated water. When I asked a well-known opponent of fluoridation this question, he said that the mayor of Sacramento, California, Mayor Golding, stated as she voted for fluoridation of the city's water, that she didn't have to worry about fluoride toxicity because she had a reverse osmosis filter.

Numerous studies have now shown that cities with fluoridated water, when compared to unfluoridated cities, either have no reduction in cavities or the unfluoridated cities have an even lower incidence of caries. If fluoridating the water could reduce the incidence of cavities, then fluoridated San Francisco should have a drastically lower incidence of cavities than unfluoridated Los Angeles. In truth, Los Angeles has a lower incidence of tooth decay than San Francisco. The USPHS used thirty-nine thousand school children to carry out one of the largest U.S.
When you use fluoridated water for cooking, the fluoride becomes progressively more concentrated as the water evaporates. This is very dangerous, since fluoride cannot be washed off foods. If you're unable to prepare ten servings of fruits and vegetables a day, I highly recommend using a blender to make up a liquid supply. If you eat whole vegetables, your body can absorb only about 30 percent of the available nutrients, whereas juicing or blenderizing allows up to 90 percent absorption. Even if you are extremely busy, find one day a week that you can spend blenderizing foods.

Avoid chlorinated or fluoridated water for drinking or cooking; however, most of the chlorine can be removed by bringing the water to a boil and letting it cool before drinking. As a strong enzyme poison, fluoride is especially harmful for individuals with chronic degenerative diseases. In countries where water fluoridation is common, we can suspect that all commercial liquids with added water contain fluorides. Commonly, these include all soft drinks, soy milk, and even 100 percent fruit juice, which is usually reconstituted by adding water to concentrates.

Further implicated is the enzyme poison, fluoride. fluoridated water may trigger an MG crisis or contribute to long-tetm deterioration with extreme exhaustion and muscle weakness (Waldbott 1998). Problems may also arise from commercial liquids, such as soft dtinks, soymilk, or reconstituted 100% fruit juices, in countries where water fluoridation is practiced. Stress'Protective Nutrients A wide variety of vitamins and minetals are involved in muscle activity, partly in energy production and partly in the synthesis of proteins and neurotransmitters.
Areas with fluoridated water and food had a higher rate of DS births than areas without fluoridation (Takahashi 1998). © SUMMARY Until recently, the birth defect that causes Down syndrome was thought to be untreatable. A search of the scientific literature, however, indicates that high-potency vitamin supplements, 5-hydroxytryptophan, the European dmg piracetam, and other supplements can be effective in treating children with Down syndrome.

This substance has crept into every link in our food chain, and the evidence is that even without fluoridated water and toothpaste we're getting a higher dose than is safe or recommended in our daily diets. Avoiding Fluoride in Your Water You can be thankful if you live in an unfluori-dated community because it's not easy to get rid of fluoride in your tap water. Distillation and reverse osmosis are the only two reliable methods for removing fluoride.
There is also evidence that communities with fluoridated water have a higher incidence of heart disease and higher rates of bone cancer in young men. Some 30 percent of children in fluoridated communities have fluorosis, a malformation of tooth enamel that causes discoloration (usually chalky white patches) and brittleness. This is a permanent change in the teeth that has also been associated with abnormal bone structure. Advocates of putting fluoride in toothpaste and mouthwash argue that it is not swallowed, and therefore not ingested.

However, using these in addition to fluoridated water and toothpaste might exceed safe fluoride intake levels. Caries, and the health problems due to artificial fluoridation, can be avoided by using kelp and restricting the use of sweet foods. The United States is one of a very few countries that still promote water fluoridation. Most of Western Europe has outlawed it; even most of U.S. communities, when allowed to vote, have rejected fluoridation; this has happened in more than 50 communities since 1999.

Using Fluoride Safely People who drink fluoridated water get about one milligram per liter of water. People who don't drink fluoridated water may get very little fluoride in their diets, unless they're big tea drinkers. One cup of tea offers one to three milligrams of fluoride. Up to ten milligrams of fluoride a day from foods and water is considered safe for adults. You should not take more than four milligrams a day from supplements of rapid-release sodium fluoride, says Khashayar Sakhaee, M.D.

Today, about half of all Americans drink fluoridated water. The public health benefits of sodium fluoride are well established. Children in communities with fluoridated water have been shown to have between 25 and 65 percent less tooth decay than children in communities where the water supply is not fluoridated. Some groups, such as the National Health Federation and the Safe Water Foundation, have objected to fluoridation of public water supplies, contending that fluoride is a toxic and possibly carcinogenic chemical. Congress ordered the U.S.

As we shall soon establish, soy foods naturally contain fluoride and processed soy foods contain a lot of it. If the fluoride danger is dose related—a point on which nearly all health professionals agree—then the widespread presence of fluoride in soy products, other processed foods and our drinking water supply cannot fail to contribute to health problems. GOING WITH THE FLUO Soy foods obtain their fluoride content in two ways. First, soybeans—like most plants—pull fluoride from the soil and from commercial fertilizers.
